PARIS (DPA) - The former Uefa president and French football great Michel Platini was released from custody after being questioned as part of a corruption breakdown into the awarding of the 2022 World cup to Qatar, French media reported.Platini, 63, was held in police custody according to French media reports which were confirmed by dpa in Paris through judicial sources.He was released after being held for several hours at the Anti-Corruption Office of the Judicial Police external Paris, news agency AFP reported early Wednesday (June 19). Qatar was controversially awarded the World cup after a December 2010 vote of the dispensation committee of world football governing body Fifa.Platini, who voted for Qatar in 2010, expressed belief in his innocence.Through a upholding released by his public relatives team, Platini's assistance William Bourdon "strongly asserts that this is in no pretension an arrest, but a hearing as a witness in the context desired by the investigators".
